Minimum Educational Qualification

The candidate must pass (10+2) with science examination from any recognized Board / Council in regular class mode with at least 45% marks in aggregate and 45% marks in English.

Applicant's age must be at least 17 (Seventeen) years as on 31st December of the year. Only female candidates are eligible.

B. Sc. Nursing is a four-year undergraduate programme focused on developing critical care, advanced thinking skills, proficiency and values necessary for the practice of professional nursing and midwifery as mentioned in the National Health Policy 2002. Students will be able to meet the nation's, society's, and individuals' health demands thanks to the program's streamlining. By upholding moral principles and standards of behaviour at all times while carrying out personal, social, and professional obligations to advance national goals, the curriculum trains students to be responsible citizens. Students can get practical understanding of their studies through projects and assignments in the B. Sc. Nursing program's classroom instruction. The students must complete a six-month internship after the programme is through in order to gain experience in actual clinical settings and learn from them. Candidates seeking challenging professional prospects in the same field may pursue higher education.

The principal objective of this four year Degree programme on B.Sc Nursing of Rama Devi Nursing Institute is to empower young men and women with minimum higher secondary qualification to pursue a professional career in nursing education. Upon completion of the course it is expected that the students would achieve the following:

  • Ability to apply knowledge from physical, biological, behavioural and medical sciences in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities;
  • Ability to transfer understanding of life style and related factors that affect health of individuals and groups;
  • Ability to provide nursing care to recuperating, critically ill and terminally ill patients;
  • Develop skills of critical thinking in making decisions in handling difficult situations while giving care to patients;
  • Ability to grasp knowledge and skill in operating of the new generation medical equipments;
  • Ability to provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the National Health Policies and Programmes;
  • Acquire skill of effective communication with individuals and groups and members of health team in order to promote sustained interpersonal relationship and team spirit;
  • Acquire skill sets to teach individuals and groups in clinical/ community health settings;
  • Ability to participate effectively as member of a health team in health care delivery system;
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership and managerial skill in clinical/ community health settings;
  • Ability to conduct need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of health care management system;
  • Develop awareness, interest for continual learning and skill development and thereby contribute towards development of self and the profession.

However, from world wide experience, it is seen that in nursing, career can take many forms apart from working in a hospital, which includes work in doctor’s chambers, clinics, schools, prisons, corporate houses, insurance companies, home nursing, counselling amongst others. Nurses help individuals from before birth to the time of death, and even help family members cope with the loss of a loved one after death. Nurses are there for almost every imaginable situation involving the health or illness of a person.

After completion of Diploma level program, a competent student may pursue graduate, post-graduate and doctorate level courses in a variety of clinical and social disciplines.
